The British Rail Class 86 is aBO BO 25kV AC electric locomotive, developed in the mid-1960s as a standard design for the electrified West Coast Main Line (WCML). Built by English Electric and BR Crewe Works to replace steam, these 100-mph, 4-axle locomotives operated high-speed express passenger and heavy freight services. 

Known as the “West Coast Workhorse,” these locomotives were used extensively across the rail network, with many later being exported to Eastern Europe. As of 2022, three Class 86’s remain preserved in usable condition in the UK, all are in private ownership.
