Wrenn Product History
Wrenn is undoubtedly the last manufacturer of fine 00 gauge die cast model locomotives. Wrenn epitomised everything that was great about British engineering and modelling.
The company’s greatest success came whilst they were based at Bowlers Croft, Basildon. Their success spans over three decades and can be defined as follows:
- Period 1 (1966-1969)
- Period 2 (1969-1972)
- Period 3 (1972-1980)
- Period 4 (1980-1992)
The acquisition of Wrenn by Dapol resulted in the closure of Basildon. Production continued for a period, firstly at Winsford Cheshire and finally Llangollen Wales.
For another decade the name Wrenn ceased to exist as a going concern until 2001 when the Wrenn was purchased by THREE avid collectors.
Today the company produces limited edition examples of rolling stock together with other related items.
The full story of Wrenn Model Railways has been published and is known as “THE STORY OF WRENN FROM BINNS ROAD TO BASILDON” by MAURICE GUNTER .
