Nothing short of an exceptional example of the LMS Coronation Class named “King George VI” locomotive! This Streamlined example in L.M.S Maroon with running number 6244 has been displayed for many years hence its condition. The colours have remained vibrant and the linage intact.
This locomotive was introduced by Wrenn for a short period between 1983-19887model reference W2302. This particular example is one of only 200 reported to having been made. Complete in every respect, including its original P4 box, packaging and usual holding rings and tissue! Date stamp to underneath P3/61044, denoting built Oct 1986.
The London Midland and Scottish Railway (LMS) Coronation Class is a class of express passenger steam locomotives designed by William Stanier. They were an enlarged version of the LMS Princess Royal Class. Several examples were originally built as streamlined, though this was later removed.
They were the most powerful passenger steam locomotives ever to be built for the British railway network, estimated at 3300 horsepower and making them far more powerful than the diesel engines that replaced them.
