Ooffering a very collectable DISPLAY ONLY model Wrenn locomotive which has withstood the test of time. This model reference W2226 M2 5P is the 4-6-2 LMS Duchess Class Locomotive named “City of London”. Like the Castle Class a very popular Wrenn locomotive. Production in Basildon Essex commenced in 1969 through to 1980 with other examples being made from 1986 up to the 1990 (Period Four). Later models came with a MK2 chassis and or larger wheels.
This is a period four M2 example with a 5Pole motor in their customary BR late emblem (ex LMS) Maroon livery with running number 46245 and smoke deflectors .This is an exceptional rare find as less than less than 120 exist!
The locomotive is in original condition, complete in every respect and includes original P4 box together with, inner packaging, manual and usual holding rings and tissue! The underneath is clearly stamped P2/81147. Denoting a build date of NOV 1988!
The Duchess locomotive used by London Midland & Scottish Railways was a class of express passenger steam locomotives designed by William Stanier. The Duchess class got its name as a result of being a non-streamlined,although to engine-men they were often known as Big Lizzies.
