Offering a new Lynton & Barnstable 2-6-2 Tank Locomotive developed by “Heljan Railways” as part of their latest “NARROW GAUGE 009/HOe Series. This Dark Green (pre 1906) Baldwin 2-4-2t engine named LYN, comes complete with all paperwork accessories and packaging!
The L&B 2-6-2T was a class of steam locomotive introduced and operated by the Lynton and Barnstaple Railway between 1898 and 1925. Four of the locomotives were built to operation on the line, and one replica locomotive survives today. At its opening in May 1898, the legendary narrow-gauge Lynton & Barnstaple Railway in North Devon was equipped with three Manning Wardle 2-6-2 tank engines. Two months later they were joined by a Baldwin 2-4-2. The Baldwin was named ‘LYN’ but commonly referred to by the staff as ‘The Yankee’.
Closure of the line came in September in 1935, and after the November auction – when LYN was sold for £50 – the loco was quickly reduced to a pile of scrap with only the nameplates, head-lamp and gauge glass surviving.
