A fine preserved model of the 4-6-2 Duchess Class Locomotive. This example is the “City of Birmingham” running number 46235 in British Rail Green Livery! The locomotive was introduced by Wrenn between 1973-91.

There were two variations produced during this period which included approximately 100 with the mark two chassis, model reference W2228. However a number of these locomotives were also fitted with LARGE DRIVING WHEELS This example produced with a lined tender comes with the LARGER wheels. This locomotive is becoming ever harder to find especially as more often than not they are all play worn!

The locomotive is complete in every respect and includes its original LATE period four box. Complete with packaging, together with the instruction manual and usual holding rings and tissue! The underneath is clearly stamped with the manufacturers stamp P2/89414 confirming a build date April 89.

The Duchess locomotive used by London Midland & Scottish Railways was a class of express passenger steam locomotives designed by William Stanier. The Duchess class got its name as a result of being a non-streamlined,although to engine-men they were often known as Big Lizzies.
