A NEW OLD STOCK 00 gauge example especially developed by “Hornby Model Railways” as part of their recent DCC series This Class 156 DMU locomotive with running number 57416 includes, original packaging, picture card and paperwork.
The British Rail Class 156 “Super-Sprinter” is a diesel multiple unit (DMU). They were built to replace elderly First Generation “Heritage” DMUs and locomotive-hauled passenger trains.
A hundred and fourteen of these units were built from 1987 to 1989 by Metro Cammell (now owned by Alston) at their Washwood Heath Works in Birmingham West Midlands. The 156 units have no air-conditioning and a top speed of 75 mph (121 km/h). As part of the privatisation of British Rail, the Class 156 fleet was sold with Angel Trains taking ownership of 76 and Porterbrook 38. These were leased to several train operating companies and some can still be found on Heritage lines up and dow the country!
