Original shop in new condition especially developed by “Heljan Model Railways” as part of their LATEST SUPER DETAIL series. This DELTIC PROTOTYPE DP2 is being offered in original later BR Green livery with contrasting grey roof. This example is DCC ready and was produced exclusively as a Limited Edition in 2012 with a run of 2000 worldwide.

The (British Rail Class 55) is a class of diesel locomotive built in 1961 and 1962 by English Electric. They were designed for the high-speed express passenger services on the East Coast Main Line between London King’s Cross and Edinburgh. The locomotive was built at their Vulcan Foundry in Newton-le-Willows to demonstrate its wares to British Rail.

As the Deltics were then in production, it was decided to produce the locomotive on the same production line; the body shell used for DP2 reputedly being the eighteenth made.They dominated express passenger services on the East Coast Main Line (ECML) particularly London-Leeds and London- Edinburgh services until 1978 when InterCity 125 ‘High Speed Trains’ were introduced.

Withdrawal came at the end of 1981. Six locomotives were preserved and are still running today.
